There is a well known story of Satan having a planning meeting with the other fallen angels. Their goal is capture the saints and to take them away from lovingly serving Christ. As different ideas are mentioned and thrown around, they keep searching for the master plan that will be the most effective. Finally they have a plan! Instead of bringing about calamity that will bring about possible distrust in God’s love, or instead of bringing about physical affliction to sow the seed of doubt, their simple plan is for humans to be so busy that they have no time to spend with God. Together they form a plan where from the moment a human wakes up till the moment they go to sleep, their day is so jam-packed with activities, technical devices and even sport, that by the time they rest their heads at night there has been no time to spend with God.
This sobering reminder falls in line with a powerful prayer that Paul prays for the Colossians.
Colossians 1 vs 9-12
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”
The best part of waking up intentionally every morning is to stop and have a moment to ask the Lord what His will is for my day. That He will give me the knowledge of His will for today will mean that I will set out to live a life that is purpose driven and peace filled.
This prayer also serves as such a marvelous template when praying for friends and family. For the times when someone is so heavily on your heart but you are not sure why or what to pray, to pray that they will live a life worthy of the Lord and that they will please him in every way and bear fruit and grow in the knowledge of God is one of the most powerful prayers that we are given.
