1 Samuel 16 vs 7
“The Lord does not look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
What makes a person beautiful?
Our older daughter loves fairy tales, princesses and beautiful dresses. When she plays dress up and walks into the room with her shining pink tutu, her eyes are filled with expectation as she waits for us to affirm that she is a beautiful princess. Time after time we have to express our delight and pleasure at this beautiful princess that has joined us to play.
As she twirls and dances and plays make believe, we try our hardest to follow our affirmation of her beauty by reminding her that the real reason she is beautiful is because of her heart. We tell her that it is her kindness, gentleness and the love that she has for those around her that makes her truly beautiful.
It is a lesson that we will need to repeat throughout her life as the world will consistently teach her to focus on her outward appearance.
Whilst one is capable of putting on make up, dressing in tutus and creating outward beauty, when the Lord looks at the heart there is no way to hide the wrinkles and blemishes. He sees us as we are. How thankful I am that sanctification is a journey and I can pray daily that He will transform me from the inside out.
Psalm 19 vs 14
“May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
