Intentional Praise

Last night my husband and I went for a long walk on the beach as the sun was setting. Just before it slipped below the horizon, we sat down to witness the day officially ending and we were rewarded by a spectacular display of oranges and reds as the sun disappeared behind a thin bank of clouds. Soon the outline of the cloud was aglow with brilliant light and we spoke about every cloud having a silver lining.

The sun sets over the ocean every night. Usually we are busy with story time and wrestling toddlers into bed, and so we miss it. But that does not mean the sun does not set.

The Lord is present and working every day of our lives. His wonderful works are abundant and His Character is unchanging.

Psalm 145 vs 5-9

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”

Although I cannot get to the beach every evening to witness the sunset. I can take time to meditate on God’s wonderful works. They are just as faithful, just as spectacular, just as capable of reminding me how small I am and how big God is. May I intentionally praise Him each day as I remember His Faithfulness and His Hand at work in my life. May I praise Him for who He is, for what He has done and for the promises that He gives me for the future.
