Safe Sinning

I walked into our tea room at work yesterday and caught the end part of a conversation that led to me being quite convicted. The topic of the conversation was speeding fines and the one guy was talking about getting a fine for going slightly above the speed he should have been driving. He then made the statement which gave me a lot to think about. It went something like:

“It’s not like I was driving dangerously. I always speed safely.”

He proceeded to compare his driving to those who are reckless and who disobey the law in a way that puts others at risk.

As I listened to him justify his “safe speeding ability” as a reason to be allowed to drive outside of what the law prescribed, I realized how often I deem certain sins as “safe” or not as “dangerous” as others.

James 2 vs 10

“For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.”

I am so thankful that all our sins are forgiven through Jesus Christ and for the reminder on the severity of sin.

1 John 1 vs 9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
