Our daughter has been asking us why animals grow. It has turned out to be a complicated question as we tried to explain food as a source of energy. She then asked why they don’t keep growing. What makes some taller than others?
This gave me an opportunity to ask myself why some people seem to grow closer to God whilst others fall away.
Ephesians 4 vs 11-14
“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
His Will is for us to grow to become the mature body of Christ. Whilst every effort needs to be made to make sure we are striving to grow and become mature, what a comfort to know that it is God’s Will for us to grow and that He is the one who ultimately makes us grow.
1 Corinthians 3 vs 7
“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
1 John 5 vs 14-15
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
My prayer today is that He will make me grow.
