Several years ago a friend and I studied the verse in Colossians that speaks about setting our mind on things above.
Colossians 3 vs 2
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
This was followed by a study on the verse in Philippians 4 vs 8
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
This week at our Bible Study we spoke about the habits that we get into that we pick up from different people. Some people shared about the words they used as a result of their colleagues, and I shared a short story from my childhood:
I met two of my friends for coffee shortly after we all received our driving licenses. We enjoyed our time together and walked out to the parking area to where we had parked, and realized we had all parked in completely different areas. One girl happened to ask why we parked where we did, and all three of us answered simultaneously,
“Because that’s where my mom parked.”
Subconsciously we just drove and parked where we had been parking our whole childhood.
In this world that we live in it is far too easy to do many things subconsciously. We need to actively take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ so that we will be sure what we are doing is in line with His Will, and not just in line with the world around us.

“and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
